This week, from the 9th to the 15th of October, is National Mental Health Week, and today is Mental Health Day. This year’s theme is Learn and Grow, a theme aimed at reducing stigma and encouraging all Australians to learn more about mental health.

At Hunterlink National we aim to promote more open and honest conversations around stigma to begin to normalise mental health in the workplace and in the community. Once we normalise mental health through education, then we can become stigma free! 

Nearly half (45%) of all Australians will experience a mental health issue at some point in their life, so everyday this week we will be sharing some tips and articles on issues related to mental health for you and your family.

When we talk about mental health, we’re talking about how someone is doing emotionally and psychologically. It can refer to having good self-esteem and self-confidence, as well as having an overall sense of wellbeing. When we are mentally healthy, we can cope with challenges life may throw at us.

You can look after your mental health by:

  • Eating healthy
  • Getting enough sleep
  • Exercising regularly
  • Spending time with friends and family
  • Relaxing and enjoying recreational time
  • Talking about your feelings or expressing them physically through smiling, laughing, or crying
  • Setting and achieving realistic goals for yourself
